THE WIMBLEDON ARCHIVE |
| The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, which is responsible for staging The Championships, Wimbledon, is a private club founded in 1868 as The All England Croquet Club. The first meeting of The Lawn Tennis Championships in 1877 enjoyed a garden party atmosphere, and attracted a few hundred spectators. Situated in Church Road since 1922, Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam tennis event still held on grass and attracts the top tennis players from around the world. | |

The Championship fortnight is the pinnacle of the grass court season, held annually six weeks before the first Monday in August. The main draw consists of Mens Singles, Ladies' Singles, Mens Doubles, Ladies' Doubles and Mixed Doubles in addition to the Junior, Senior Invitationals and Wheelchair events.
The Wimbledon Archive has built up an extensive collection of match footage, programming, interviews and behind the scenes coverage ranging from black & white to colour and High Definition. The Wimbledon Archive collection features many tennis legends including unique footage of the Doherty Brothers and great pre-war Champions such as Fred Perry, Rene Lacoste, Don Budge, Suzanne Lenglen and Helen Wills Moody. With the modern era came the emergence of such all time tennis greats as Bjorn Borg, Martina Navratilova, John McEnroe, Steffi Graf, Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg, Andre Agassi, Venus and Serena Williams, Pete Sampras, Maria Sharapova and Roger Federer - all of whom are encompassed in this exclusive Wimbledon Archive collection.
